This is according to the IHL Group who conducted a study of more than 100 retailers. While only 10% of the larger retail stores have currently adopted beacons, many – both large and small – are planning to launch beacons by the end of the year. Even more aim to get going with Bluetooth technology by the end of next year. One interesting note was that significantly fewer mid-sized retailers planned on getting started with BLE.
Only roughly 30% had no plans for beacons at all. As there are more and more successful trials, we expect even that number to go down – it is predicted that by 2020 all retailers will be using them.
